Embracing Self Care: One Nudge at a Time.

It's been a little while since I've blogged, but I feel like I have something worth putting into words. As we this year towards the home stretch of 2021, with many preparing for Holiday celebrations with filled with shopping, food, and family, there comes with this the inevitable business leading many into distress and leading to decisions that we come regret and come up with resolutions to combat in January.  In addition to this, covid-19 remains in the forefront of many people’s lives bringing with it illness, isolation, and bitterness that puts damper on our spirits and also is harmful to our health: physical, mentally, and even spiritually.  So, the first mention of embracing self care is easy to disregard.  We all are I’m sure familiar with the self talk, “I’m too busy for that” or “I’ll get to that sometime later.”  But maybe we should realize that this is when we need to address self care the most.  I recently listened to a podcast from Jimmy McKay’s PT Pintcast titled:

On Service to the Profession: Taking it Outside the Clinic.

After a very busy fall and winter, I am  finally returning to my blog with some thoughts on service. It's been a few weeks since #APTACSM in New Orleans and I've had some time to reflect on the week.  There is much that I could talk about: the massive amount of people that attended, the wonderful and thought provoking sessions, the city itself; but what typically stands out for me is the connections that I form and strengthen.  It is awe inspiring to think about all of the volunteer time that goes into a sucessful conference.  It is this demonstration of service to the profession that inspires me to do my part and keeps me coming back for more.  I've have the pleasure to serve both the Michigan chapter of APTA (MPTA) over the past decade and more recently the Academy of Acute Care Physical Therapy (AACPT) this past year.  I found service to be enriching and invigorating, especially with the current volatile state of health care.  So I've decided to share some experie

How I became a Fitness Convert

Hi all, I've been mulling over starting a blog as a way to express my thoughts about various professional issues and personal interests and Free the Yolk and #SummerofMOVE has spurred me on to get started with the #PreachItTeachIt Challenge.  It goes something like this: "Imagine if everyone knew as much about the amazing power of having a body that MOVES often and well...Simply tell your story..." So here goes, the start of my new blog (I had to really think hard about the title, but I settled on "Doing my Part" because that's a big reason for my involvement in the profession.  I'm just one small town PT trying to make a difference in my little corner of the world, by showing up, carrying out various tasks, and living our core values.  Essentially, I'm doing my part.
